Microfibre Laundry Bag

Regular price $32.00

Each 6kg cycle of a washing machine could release more than 700,000 microscopic plastic fibres into the environment, according to a study!

Microfibre shedded from our synthetic clothing is so small that neither washing machines nor water treatment plants are able to fully catch and filter them out. This laundry mesh bag has very finely woven mesh that is able to trap microfibres and prevent them from entering our wastewater system.

Use this bag to wash synthetic fabrics such as polyester, acrylic, nylon and fleeces. The bag also extends the life of your garments, as fewer fibres break when washed inside. A win-win for you and the earth!

How big is the bag?

The bag is 74 (H) x 50 (W) cm big. It is very roomy and you will be able to separate your load into synthetic material (into the bag) and natural fibres (outside the bag. You should only fill the bag half full so that the clothes are washed thoroughly.

How does the bag work?

The bag reduces the amount of friction that clothing creates during washing, which results in less fibre loss. You can then collect the fibres that are shed and discard of them properly!

How to discard the fibres / How to clean the bag

The bag should NOT be rinsed as this defeats the purpose of collecting the microfibres (we DON'T want them to be washed down the sink).

Collect the microfibres when they accumulate, and dispose of them in general trash (in Singapore, we incinerate this). Microfibres cannot currently be recycled in any meaningful way.

Will the bag shed microplastic itself?

The bag does not shed microfibres of its own due to the type of material it is made from (polyamide) and the tight structure.

What is the lifespan of the bag?

The bag can potentially last 6-8 years, depending on the usage.

While the box packaging mentions that the bag itself can be recycled, we have to clarify that this is NOT the case in Singapore. We checked with the NEA! Locally, we do not have the ability to recycle this material in this form (soft bag), and so at the end of the product's useful life, it should be discarded in general trash. If this changes in the future, which we hope it will, we will update you :)
